By Simon K. Turibamwe

Residents of Ministers’ village Muyenga tank hill Kampala, have petitioned the office of the speaker of parliament to prevail over Lamwo District Woman MP, Molly Lanyero and her husband Alfred Odera, an official in prime minister’s office for turning their home a public nuisance. Lanyero, a first-term legislator who styles herself as a consultant on peace, has become a nuisance in her new neighbourhood of Muyenga, where she rears cockerels, rabbits, turkeys, ducks and countless chicken that makes full time noise as well as littering the neighbourhood. In a letter written to the speaker, what mostly disturbs the neighbours, are the cockerels she claims come from her constituents, which make so much noise starting from midnight to late in the morning giving them sleepless nights. The letter further calls for a quick intervention of the speaker saying that the MP and her husband are affecting the welfare of the whole village. “The couple has constantly irritated us by bringing and breeding cockerels, ducks, turkeys and rabbits at different times,” reads part of the letter. Another neighbor stated that: “Previously, my late mother was greatly inconvenienced while she lived. We do not know if such stress of which she complained constantly, did not speed up her untimely death.” Neighbours say that they have failed to understand the behaviors of this couple who have totally failed to recognize that they are living with elites in the area. Muyenga ministers’ village is popular with high profile individuals, such as Deputy Chief justice, Speaker and deputy speaker, the former IGP Kale Kayihura where they say behaviors such as those by the new MP are unheard of and referred to as being primitive. “It is primitive to live with animals this way,” said a furious neighbour. The LC I Chairman of the Muyenga Minister’s Village Mr. David Kayitare, whose residents include Deputy Chief Justice Owiny Dhollo, say that he has previously tried to intervene in the matter but Odera and Lanyero has flouted all previous agreements to end the provocative behaviour. Kayitare, who was recently voted as the best-performing Chairman in the entire Makindye Division said: “I fail to see how a normal, educated person fails to heed to the legitimate concerns of a neighbour, Ironically, Speaker Kadaga also lives on the same Tank Hill”.

WHO IS LANYERO.

The Lamwo district woman Legislator, Lanyero, aged 44, is married to Alfred Odera, an official in office of the prime minister attached to Northern Uganda Structural Adjustment Facility (NUSAF) It was not immediately clear what action Kadaga would take. However, the petitioners demanded that Kadaga takes an immediate action, reprimanding the legislator and ask her to behave normally and respect her neighbors’ wishes. For comment, call or text 0752510225
