WAR IN WAKISO DISTRICT AS SPEAKER PREPARES TO OUST MATIA LWANGA BWANIKA
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

All isn’t well at Wakiso district headquarters where technical staff and elected politicians are sharply split into two antagonistic camps one loyal to incumbent LC5 Chairman and the other for the district council Speaker Simon Nsubuga Mujambula who is already campaigning aggressively to replace the incumbent. Nsubuga accuses Bwanika of serving for too long and says it will be shameful for Wakiso voters to allow Bwanika 3rd term in 2021. He says in the spirit of giving other fellow DPs a chance to develop their leadership credentials, Bwanika should bow out as opposed to waiting to be humiliated in both DP party primaries and general elections. The Bwanika sympathizers instead dismiss Nsubuga for being a proxy trouble causer who has been deployed by the economic mafias who are uncomfortable with Bwanika’s relentless fights aimed at protecting the lake and the district against illegal sand mining. Stung by Nsubuga’s accusations that Bwanika should be shunned by DPs because he isn’t enthusiastic towards Norbert Mao’s leadership, the incumbent’s supporters have vowed to field him on the independent ticket as opposed to travelling to city hall to and kneel before President General Norbert Mao. The very divisive feud has also affected council business as each time there is a meeting, the two men counter-mobilize against each other’s position and ideas.

CAMP MEMBERS

Bwanika’s diehard supporters among councilors include Gombe’s Ronald Kasirivu, Kiira’s Betty Naluyima, Kasangati’s Tom Muwonge, Makindye Ssabagabo’s Hadijah Kawooya and Kyengera’s Margaret Nakatudde among others. On the other hand, Speaker Nsubuga is backed by the likes of Kakiri’s Faruk Tebandeke, Kajjansi’s Bashir Kayondo, Katabi’s Kate Nagita and Wakiso TC’s Allen Nakyanja just to mention a few. Nakyanja is a young sister to Minister Nakiwala Kiyingi and professes DP. Bwanika’s people are saying there shouldn’t be party primaries or else Bwanika stands on the independent ticket to avoid the intrigue and syndicates that always characterize DP internal elections. For comments, call, text or whatsapp us on 0703164755.
