WHY SEBEI REGION HAS GANGED UP ON TYCOON ANTHONY KUKA

By Our Reporters

Until 2010/11, Anthony Kuka operated as a successful business tycoon in his native Sebei region and more so Kapchorwa district. Always taking advantage of his home turf’s proximity to the border with Kenya, the man always hit it big. Within no time, he transformed himself into a very successful tycoon and a diehard supporter of the President and his NRM party. He always funded NRM mobilization activities and in the process overshadowed home boys like Juma Seiko and Maj Chemonges who used to work very closely with Capt Abbey Mukwaya of the political desk. As the NRM top officials from Kampala went about early political mobilization to ensure the President retains Sebei, which FDC strongman Nandala Mafabi was beginning to threaten from the nearby Elgon region, they learnt about Anthony Kuka, a local tycoon whose generosity many party supporters kept testifying about. He was reached and persuaded to relocate to Kampala where he was marketed to people who matter in the Presidency and in the end he replaced Maj Chemonges as the president’s key man on Sebei political mobilization which saw him (Kuka) craft Kenyan Deputy President Ruto into the anti-Mbabazi efforts in 2016. Maj Chemonges was eventually pushed out and his supporters have never stopped grumbling. They always plotted to get Kuka into problems and discredit him thoroughly before his new bosses in Kampala. At the political desk of the Presidency, Kuka was first put to work with guys like Godfrey Longah, Kefa Mafumo and others directly reporting to Mukwaya. He was put in the political desk because of the vastness of his mobilization network in Sebei and during subsequent staff meetings of the Presidency, the Minister and PPS saw his hard work and the fact that he was versatile and ready to multi-task and he was immediately elevated. This new clout caused him more enemies who felt he was now going to use his vast connections in the business community to bring more investors to Uganda. Indeed this is what happened and within a short time, the man became a key contact person between the Presidency and foreign investors. This hurt his foes even more and within no time, some of his friends at the work place shunned him and began working closely with Maj Chemonges’ camp to plot his downfall from grace to grass which is finally beginning to happen and very fast.

Anthony Kuka

When Afande Edith Nakalema was appointed to head a new front against corruption, haters originated negative reports accusing Anthony Kuka of improper conduct for which Nakalema was prompted to investigate him. And on 19th December, a meeting was organized in the Presidency for Nakalema to table her findings which painted Anthony Kuka in very bad light. In fact after that meeting, Kuka’s haters in the Presidency linked up with his adversaries in Sebei and organized a party to celebrate his down fall. Many left the drink up party (venue withheld) convinced the strong powerbroker for the investors from Sebei was finally going to be fired from his work place basing on the reports originated by staff in Afande Nakalema’s new anti-corruption unit. Malicious rumors were quickly spread to Sebei that Maj Chemonges was finally going to have the last laugh since the controversial power-broking tycoon Kuka who took his job in the Presidency was beginning to become cracked up at his work place.  The early celebrations were joined by haters in Tingey County where Anthony Kuka’s brother Jimmy Chemonges has already been campaigning to become the next area MP come 2021. The supporters of former Minister Stephen Chebrot too were excited because Kuka’s brother has been a major hurdle in the ex-Minister’s bid to reclaim his Tingey County MP Seat. In the end, an impression has since been created by these spontaneous jubilations that the entire Sebei region has ganged up on Anthony Kuka who in his past life supported many local residents. Sourced from Red Pepper newspaper.
