Aisha Kabanda Nalule, an influential State House secretary, has divorced the NRM Party which she has served since her youth days. She has defected to opposition party JEEMA headed by Asuman Basalirwa. A staunch supporter and admirer of Bobi’s People Power, Kabanda first shocked the world when she drove to Bugiri & de-campaigned the NRM candidate. The background to this is that Kabanda, a former Kampala RCC, has for a while felt unwanted by the ruling party because her efforts to become Butambala woman MP have always been resisted by her own colleagues in the NRM and State House. She used to stand against Bitamazire and was in 2016 cheated and the seat went to the current woman MP Lydia Mirembe who she says stole her votes both in primaries & general elections. Kabanda’s started manifesting dissent while still Kampala RCC as she used to often bash Abdul Kitata & Gen Kayihura whom she accused of promoting impunity and protecting criminals in Kampala. She now joins her husband the highly intellectual Omar Kalinge Nyago who is a leading ideologue in JEEMA. DP too has been sweet-talking her on grounds that JEEMA took Asuman Basalirwa & Yusuf Kiranda from them. JEEMA has already announced she will be their flag bearer for Butambala woman MP in 2021.
