Minister Evelyn Anite has notified the management of the Observer newspaper of her intentions to drag them to court for their May 2018 article which her lawyers (of ACADIA Advocates) say defamed her. The story indicated that the Minister was being investigated by the President for receiving bribes from Arab investors. The lawyers say that, to survive being sued, the newspaper must prominently apologize and also pay Shs500m short of which their management prepares for more painful consequences upon being subjected to full civil proceedings in court.

The same law firm is understood to have been instructed to commence civil defamation proceedings against a number of online news websites that have previously reported bribery allegations against the same minister.
