Being one who doesn’t easily go down without a fight, Mubs governing council chairman Prof Venescias Baryamureeba has been advised by some lawyer friends to consider suing the Attorney General challenging the manner in which the President ordered for the automatic re-appointment of Mubs Principal Wasswa Balunywa. It will be recalled that in total disregard of the council or its legal existence, the President on Monday wrote a very unambiguous letter directing the Education Minister to reappoint Balunywa so that he continues leading the Business School that he founded close to 20 years ago. This was a day after the Baryamureeba-led governing council had sat and chased Balunywa and designated his deputy Prof Moses Muhwezi to hold the position in acting capacity. This, for a moment, made Balunywa’s professional future look uncertain. Baryamureeba had previously spoken out defending the view that Balunywa was simply unsuitable for the job. It’s this disappointment that lawyers are exploiting by advising Baryamureeba that he has a good cause of action to sue since nobody is above the law. This clearly means Baryamureeba, who clearly can’t work with Balunywa anymore, now has two options to choose from: either resign in protest or resist Balunywa’s reappointment by challenging the President’s directive in courts of law.
