Saying today its Hellen Nakimuli departing and tomorrow it could be anyone else, moneybags Speaker Anita Among has in advance paid all the money Kibuli SS will require to keep fallen Kalangala Woman MP Hellen Nakimuli’s daughter (Meraline Ssuubi) in school up to the completion of S4. The young girl, the deceased’s only biological child, is currently an S1 student at Kibuli SS.
Anita Among, who is seeking re-election as Speaker, revealed that she sat together with her family members and opted to help having gotten touched upon learning of the orphan Hon Nakimuli (who days earlier travelled to Buyende for the vigil of her own mother-in-law) is leaving behind.
She said through her Bukedea Comprehensive School and the Magogo Foundation, they had decided to help on the school fees part. She read out the letter that had been written to her by the Kibuli SS management and said everything had been cleared/paid and all the young girl has to do between now and S4 is to concentrate on reading her books and excelling.
She implored fellow MPs to get touched and equally do something to materially support the young girl in whatever way they can. She revealed that Hon Hussein Kirumira Lukalidde, one of the NUP MPs from Luwero where she will be buried, had been given all the relevant documentation and the receipts evidencing the fact that all the fees had been paid at Kibuli SS until S4. Vice President Jessica Alupo equally made very complementary utterances about Nakimuli and promised to complement Anita Among’s efforts towards materially supporting the deceased’s daughter.
Among, who clarified that everything relating to the Nakimuli funeral expenses had been footed by Parliament and that no one should be tolerated cajoling people into any fundraising for that item, used the occasion to demonstrate how he trusts and was more comfortable dealing with Kirumira than his fellow Katikamu MP Denes Sekabira.
There was a Shs1m condolence message from GCW Hamson Obua, which had been given to Sekabira but Anita Among demanded that Denes immediately hands it over to Kirumira, who she demanded will have to be accountable for everything.
Among also unveiled another Shs20m from the President Museveni, Shs10m from her and another Shs5m from Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.
At the same session, Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja and LoP Joel Ssenyonyi led the tribute-paying session. Ssenyonyi demanded that more questions be raised and answered as Ugandans continue to be appalled over the circumstances surrounded Hellen Nakimuli’s death.
He agreed that the Speaker was right to discourage speculation and conspiracy theories but went on to defend the ordinary Ugandans’ right to use social media platforms to continue demanding for more explanation aimed at re-instilling confidence in the country’s healthcare system.
Ssenyonyi demanded that all MPs unanimously derive renewed enthusiasm from the circumstances of her death and consistently advocate for a more effective public health system that works for all Ugandans so that Hellen Nakimuli doesn’t die in vain.
