On Sunday, the Vice President Jessica Alupo and Premier Robinah Nabbanja represented their boss President YK Museveni to preside over celebrations to mark 25 years of existence for Mt Zion Prayer Centre Bukalango, which was pioneered by his great friend Fr Expedito Magembe, who is now deceased.
The event started with a mass that was celebrated by Archbidhop Dr. Paul Ssemogerere. The Bukalango Prayer Centre is located in Kakiri Town Council, Hoima Road in Wakiso district.
In leading the mass, Ssemogerere was aided by Vicar Generals Gerald Kalumba, Rogers Kabuye Mukasa and the Centre’s Director Fr James Ssebayiga who thanked the President for the generous support he has over the years extended towards the infrastructural development of Bukalango.
Ssebayiga thanked Gen Museveni for single-handedly funding the construction of different structures at the Centre. These include the nuns’ residence block, the structure housing the survenoir shop at the Centre, the new Cathedral and also the purchase of the equipment with which Bukalango TV was established with the purpose of deepening evangelization.
However, the same Fr Ssebayiga asked the Vice President to help them inform the President that the TV he established for them was forced off air long time ago after URA accused them of defaulting on paying the relevant taxes that had become payable and due.
An evidently remorseful Alupo promised to raise the matter with the President whose intervention Archbishop Ssemogerere said is the only thing that can soften URA to become more considerate and allow the Church’s TV to be re-opened so that the broadcasting of Christian messages can resume.
