To become the new CEC member representing as NRM Vice Chairman for Northern Uganda at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds recently, Hamson Obua defeated several others including Sam Engola, Judith Adyek etc.
Inside CEC he is replacing Jacob Oulanyah whose death in March 2022 caused the entire Greater North to be without CEC representation for all that entire period. Besides being MP Ajuri County in Alebtong district, Obua is also the Government Chief Whip in Parliament, which essentially makes him chairman for NRM caucus.
Yet as he enjoys his honeymoon as the new Party leader for the Northern region, Obua has come under sharp scrutiny by social media pundits based in his back yard of Lango sub region.
Critics have been lamenting over the fact that Obua was rejected by delegates from his home ground of Lango and nearby Acholi-land.
They are busy on WhatsApp groups claiming that, since he was majorly elected by delegates from Western, Central and Eastern region, then Obua doesn’t qualify to be the organic CEC representative for the people from Lango and Acholi sub regions.
They have resorted to belittling him with derogatory titles like the NRM Chairman who doesn’t have the legitimacy of the people in his native home region of Lango.
