Anifah Karadi, the Independent candidate in Kawempe by-elections, has been exposed as an inconsistent liar who also likes to engage in confusion-mongering. This exposure was done by none other than the Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja during the Barometer programme on NBS TV.
Hosted by Adam Kungu, Nabbanja revealed how Karadi had sneaked into her home at Makerere Kavule at night and told her she had no problem bowing out of the race for Faridah Nambi provided the President calls her on phone. Nabbanja says she indeed prompted the President to ring her and it was during that phone call that a deal was reached for Karadi to get out of the race in favor of Faridah Nambi to avoid confusing the ruling NRM party supporters.
“The President spoke to her and that put the matter to rest. If you say she is still in the race, then that means that woman is a very dishonest woman, which is unfortunate,” Nabbanja said. She had been portrayed to have lied on the account of what she had said earlier. Nabbanja, supported by fellow panelist David Kabanda, had claimed that Karadi had bowed out of the race and was now campaigning for Faridah Nambi. The duo claimed that Karadi had even attended Nambi’s final rally on Tuesday at Mbogo grounds. Then during the commercial break, Karadi communicated to the Barometer producer claiming to still be in the race. Adam Kungu read it out which risked portraying Nabbanja and Kabanda to be fake news peddlers and agents of disinformation. Nabbanja got so angry and accused some NBS staffers of abusively using their positions sometimes to contradict the ruling NRM and make it seem disorganized-because many of them are NUP adherents.
She insisted that it’s the opposition which has multiple candidates in the Kawempe race and not the NRM. That as far as she is concerned, NRM has one candidate in the Kawempe race and not two because as far as she is concerned, Karadi isn’t in the race anymore. She demanded that Karadi makes a direct phone call into the Barometer programme and speak for herself rather than quietly speaking through the producer who David Kabanda dismissed as a NUP diehard.
