Kampala lawyer Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi (aka Muzzanganda) is favored to become the NUP flag bearer for Kawempe North by-elections slated for 13th March.
Nalukoola is favored because the top NUP leadership is convinced that he has the best leadership credentials and pedigree among all those who have stepped forward seeking to be fronted.
Nalukoola is also an organic grassroots person who can freely mingle with the ordinary people, which is a strong selling point besides the fact that he speaks well and can make authoritative submissions on the floor of Parliament and even in committees.
Considerig Nalukoola, a recent entrant from DP, for the Kawempe North flag bearership not only raises the profile of NUP caucus in Parliament but it also helps Bobi Wine to demonstrate to other potential defectors from other parties, currently sitting on the fence, that it indeed pays to join NUP.
The only problem remaining for Nalukoola is how easily Bobi Wine manages to convince hundreds of the very enthusiastic foot soldiers that the more down-to-earth Umar Magala, who is a foot soldier and one of their own, is still unfit to be given chance to become the new Kawempe North MP and replace fellow foot soldier Mohammed Segirinya.
All said and done, it’s incresingly becoming clear that it will either be Nalukoola or Umar Magala to carry the NUP flag and face off with NRM’s Faridah Nambi and other contestants.
