While campaigning at one of his campaign stop-overs in Nakasongora district, the NUP Presidential Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu called on his supporters to overcome fear and prepare to march to victory on voting day whether the regime leaves internet connection on or not.

Addressing a crowd that was still very big even after the area security committee chasing them into a forest, having declared all trading centers to be out of bounds for the very popular change candidate, Kyagulanyi predicted that internet will be switched off as always, to provide cover for electoral mischief to be orchestrated.

But he advised his supporters to form vigilantes committees which will be essential in spreading the information so that groups of foot soldiers keep in touch and remain effectively coordinated even when the internet is switched off. He expressed fear that even phone communication might be turned off so that people can’t make even calls.

Kyagulanyi advised on how all that can be circumvented. “You are young people with a lot of zeal and energy. What you do on that day is to get into core groups of 5 people in your locality. You keep in touch with others in the next township. Move into those towns and cities and begin to celebrate immediately and don’t stop that celebration until the dictator gets overwhelmed and goes away,” Kyagulanyi told the Nakasongora crowd.

“They are planning to arrest me, Joel Ssenyonyi, Muwanga Kivumbi and keep each one of us away so that you have no one to lead you to do anything. Let’s not get cowed. Let’s prepare to counter all that because we can overwhelm and surprise them through organization,” Kyagulanyi said adding that he was motivated to see large crowds still congregate to listen to him inspite of all efforts by security committee members in all districts to foil his campaign rallies.

“They keep chasing us away from the main roads and all trading centers in districts but I’m surprised to see that people still congregate and very quickly. This can be replicated and we surprise them on voting day and days after.”

Kyagulanyi told his supporters why they should overcome fear and freely congregate in townships to celebrate his victory and that of other opposition NUP candidates on voting day. He said they should begin celebrating at the polling station and march to the next major trading centre as opposed to waiting for the official results declaration by the Electoral Commission.

“Don’t fear anything because there is nothing that can be done to stop us the moment we have a crowd of 10,000 jubilant supporters spontaneously congregating in each town or trading centre to celebrate victory of their candidate. There is nothing the Police or even the army will do. Actually, those are our supporters and they are with us. That is why we [the opposition] have always defeated Museveni in the barracks and at polling stations where majority Police men and army members vote from,” Kyagulanyi said to deafening applause.
