In Uganda we have more than 2,000 petrol stations spread put in the different towns. But reliable sources in Energy Ministry and UNBS say that a good number of them don’t meet the minimum operational requirements which is the reason why a decision has been taken to have their licenses revoked and subsequently closed. The impending closure is in accordance with the Petroleum Supply Act which clearly makes it an offence to import or trade in adulterated fuel products. Consequently, a team led by energy ministry Petroleum Supply Commissioner Rev Frank Tukwasibwe has drawn up a list of non-compliant fueling stations that are going to be reprimanded in various ways. Whereas some are going to be fined, cautioned and have their licenses suspended, many others are going to have their operational licenses permanently revoked and their operations closed because they are repeat offenders who have, with impunity, been ignoring the Ministry and UNBS’s numerous warnings.
