DF party national chairman Lubega Mukaku has gone back to his old ways of bashing the NUP top leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu. In his latest Kwezi media interview, Mukaku was asked to comment about the chaos the distribution of party tickets has created inside NUP party for which he served as founding electoral commission chairman.

Mukaku said he didn’t expect much because NUP things have always been like that. He recalled how he was dismissed and humiliated at a press conference in 2020 on grounds that he was using his position to ensure that his fellow DP block members dominated the list of NUP flag bearers.

“They said I was conflicted because I was a candidate yet Maiso, Mercy Walukamba, Jeremiah Keeya and all the others had constituencies and wanted the ticket too. They also said I was favoring people from DP Block yet these are the ones who won for NUP to the extent that of the 57 MPs they got, 48 of them were of DP Block background,” Mukaku said.

Mukaku claimed that NUP isn’t a serious party at all and he wouldn’t want to waste time discussing them anymore. He said Kyagulanyi and group specialize on character-assassination and called on Ugandans to ignore their claims that Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro’s arrest was due to conspiracy by his Nakawa East opponent Michael Kabaziguruka of PFF.

He said that’s how they demonized Mathias Mpuuga by claiming he was a thief and that he was the man behind Bijambiyas in Masaka. Mukaku claimed that they made Kyagulanyi by taking him for DP re-unions and by-elections in Bugiri, Arua, Jinja and Rukungiri which enabled him to test his popularity outside Kampala. “But that same man destroyed Kassiano Wadri, Gerlad Karuhanga, Paul Mwiru and even tried Basalirwa but failed. They used propaganda to spoil their names and that shows unseriousness.”

Mukaku said he was proud with having been the first person to see Kyagulanyi’s unseriousness and calling it out for what it was. “At that time even colleagues like Mathias Mpuuga weren’t interested in what I was saying but today we are on the same page.”

He wondered why small ones like Mufumbiro, Saudah Madada and Bobi Giant are the ones being locked up for the military parade at NUP headquarters yet key actors like Kyagulanyi, Rubongoya, Fred Nyanzi and others are at large.

He wondered why Nubian Li was released shortly after being arrested yet the likes of Mufumbiro might remain in detention for a minimum of three years. He rejected claims that Kabaziguruka was behind this, wondering why Madada, Bobi Giant and others are being caged as well yet they are not Kabaziguruka’s opponents in Nakawa.

Mukaku said it was a mistake for the NUP leadership to have that parade because it amounted to provoking and justifying the state’s decision to unleash violence on NUP foot soldiers. He advised NUP foot soldiers to be cautious and avoid wearing military fatigues.

“Why is it that Joel Ssenyonyi, Kyagulanyi and Rubongoya aren’t having berets on their campaign posters if its okay? I advise those young people to be careful because they are going to rot in prison,” said Mukaku as he called on NUP top leadership bosses to use their brains more than their bodies.

“Those things of mbayira wo omubiri are going to destroy this struggle. Let’s apply our brains to be able to lead those young people properly because removing Museveni isn’t going to be easy.” He said that removing Museveni is a much more sophisticated operation than many foot soldiers have been misled and manipulated to think.
