In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Pastor Joseph Sserwadda (the founder and Head of Victory Church Ndeeba) is seen and heard saying uncharitable things about Banyankole which is one of the more than 50 tribes making up a nation called Uganda.
Dr. Sserwadda, preaching to a visibly shocked congregation, questions whether Gen Museveni’s military victory in 1986 amounted to elevating all Banyankoles to becoming members of a certain ruling class who have to be entitled to all the privileged things in Uganda. What Video here:
He proceeds to remind Banyankoles that their tribe isn’t the first one to be in power in Uganda and makes reference to the Langis and Acholis who for many years loomed large until Gen Museveni took over on 26th January 1986.
He makes it clear that it’s unacceptable for Banyankoles to construe themselves as the only ones entitled to all great things in Uganda because the country has a total of 52 tribes with equal share or claim to the national cake.
The video will naturally shock many people even in government who, hitherto, must have considered him liberal and one of the most polished and restrained senior citizens in Uganda. It’s not clear what has lately made Dr. Sserwadda, a renowned diehard supporter of the ruling establishment, to become disgruntled to such an extent.
It also remains to be seen how Gen Museveni and his entire security establishment (who are renowned for their intolerance towards those who make such ethnic reference) are going to respond to this latest provocation by Dr. Sserwadda, who is vastly a followed Pentecostal preacher in Uganda where he has mentored many even more successful spiritual leaders like Aloysius Bugingo and others.
