Muni University has failed to admit students for two-degree programs due to funding constraints. The National Council for Higher Education- NCHE cleared the university to teach Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Bachelor of Business Management and Entrepreneurship courses. However, they are yet to be rolled out. The University currently teaches Bachelor of Information System, Bachelor of Science Information Technology, Bachelor of Science with Education and Bachelor of Nurse in Science. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christine Dranzoa revealed that they cannot teach the courses programs due to lack of Shs1.6bn shillings. Dranzoa says that they have been allocated Shs3.8bn. She explains that if the required Shs1.6bn is availed in the coming financial year 2019/2020, students will be admitted. She added that more programs that have been developed are in the pipeline of approval but the university is skeptical of their operationalization given the inadequate funding extended to the university. Asked about the implication of not rolling out the approved programs, Dranzoa says that it will be a loss for the country and West Nile. Rev. Fr. Odubuker Picho Epiphany, the University Secretary says that the university was being underutilized. He explains that the institution has capacity to admit 5,000 students but currently has only 382 due to the few academic programs. He explained that given the facilities the institution has, they are capable of running over 20 academic programs without challenges.
In the coming financial year 2019/2020, the University has been allocated Shs17.6bn up from the Shs15.6bn in the current financial year 2018/2019. For comments, call or text us on 0752510225.
