Permanent Secretary for Judicial Service Commission Dr. Rose Nassali Lukwago has continued to be unwell suffering from a mysterious health condition which has compromised her health to the extent of sleeping a lot during office meetings at JSC.
Her condition, which she prefers to remain very private about, escalated recently when she collapsed at home and had to be rushed to a hospital along Lugogo Bypass Road.
After being admitted there for roughly 10 days, Dr. Nassali was discharged back home. She has since taken up a medical leave of 45 days.
This has created a vacuum which her superiors and the PSST Ramathan Goobi have filled by designating Under Secretary Margaret Akurut to serve as the Ag Secretary and Accounting Officer for the Commission.
There are concerns that those sympathetic to Dr. Nassali have continued working very hard to conceal information about her medical condition in order to avoid alarming her supervisors in government so that she isn’t forced out into early retirement on grounds of frail health.
This desire for personal privacy further manifested recently when those taking care of her at the Lugogo hospital prevented top JSC officials, who had come to check on her, from having access to her.
The PS/Accounting Officer job can be very demanding because the holder will be responsible for appraising staff, supervising the technical staff & making reports about them besides overseeing the implementation of government policy and ruling party manifesto.
