UGANDA EMBASSY IN MOSCOW HOSTS LUNCHEON FOR UGANDAN STUDENTS, UGANDAN DIASPORA IN RUSSIAN

The Uganda Embassy in Moscow hosted a luncheon meeting for Ugandan students and the Ugandan Diaspora in the Russian Federation on May 1, 2021. The officials from the Embassy that attended the meeting included; H.E Ambassador Johnson Agara OLWA- Head of Mission, Ambassador Gideon Rutazindwa- Deputy Head of Mission, Col. Gerald Ahimbizibwe-Defence Attaché, Ms. Susan Okodi- Counselor, Ms. Violet Tusiime-Administrative Attaché and Mr. Henry Sanyu-Financial Attaché.
The meeting was held at the Golden Ring Hotel in Moscow and was purposed to hold conversation on consular issues, encourage the two communities to build strong associations and remind them that they are Ugandan Ambassadors and wherever they are, they should carry the Ugandan flag high. Amb. OLwa thanked Mr. Brian Mugabi, the coordinator of Ugandan students in the Russian Federation and Mr. Edward Nyanzi, the Chairman of the Uganda Diaspora Association in the Russian Federation for their good leadership.
He thanked the students and the Ugandans in the diaspora for exhibiting discipline. He informed them that bad behavior affects the image of their home country. He was happy that the Embassy has not received any bad reports about any Ugandans within the Russian Federation and he encouraged them to keep up the good spirit.
The Ambassador applauded the Ugandan students and those in the diaspora for their cooperation and commitment every time they are called upon to collaborate in promoting Uganda.
He appreciated the students who have annually exhibited cultural artifacts of Uganda at their Universities and encouraged them to keep up the good work. Officials from the Embassy will always work with them to ensure that the events are successful.
The Government of the Russia Federation offers Uganda 20 scholarships annually for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In this current year, 2020/2021, 16 students were awarded scholarships.
Currently there are about 53 students studying in the Russian Federation and 22 in Ukraine. The courses they are pursuing include; Medicine, Civil Engineering, Aero Engineering, Software Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Digital Economics and International Relations, among others. Both representatives of the Ugandans in the diaspora and the students thanked the Embassy for organizing the meeting. The Embassy agreed to hold these kind of meetings twice every year.
