SUPER THURSDAY BLOW: FDC LOSES ALL 12 KCCA SPEAKER, DEPUTY SPEAKER POSITIONS

By Mulengera Elections Desk

Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has continued to lose more ground in the capital Kampala after registering devastating losses in Thursday’s Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Speaker and Deputy Speaker elections at City Hall and in Divisions.

President Yoweri Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) won nine of the 12 seats, followed by Democratic Party (DP) which secured two slots.

For the Speaker position at City Hall, at least three political groups – FDC, NRM and People Power pressure group – are associating themselves with the victory of FDC rebel Councillor Abubaker Kawalya.

Kawalya struck a deal with Kyambogo University Councillor Bruhan Byaruhanga (NRM) to knock out FDC official flagbearers Doreen Nyanjura and Doreen Sabuka, in the Speaker and Deputy Speaker elections, respectively.

In the Divisional Speaker races, NRM won in Central, Kawempe, Nakawa and Rubaga while DP took Makindye.

For the Divisional Deputy Speaker elections, NRM carried the day in Kawempe, Makindye, Rubaga and Nakawa, leaving the Central Division seat for DP.
