Joseph Ojok, a businessman from South Sudan, has dragged MP Judith Babirye to the Commercial Division of the High Court. In 2018, Babirye as always choked on debts including one from Finance Trust Bank. It originally was Shs10m which kept accumulating.
She had mortgaged her plot of land to Finance Trust to get the loan. Uncomfortable losing all that land for just Shs10m, Babirye looked for buyers. Total price was Shs220m to which Ojok agreed but to circumvent the Uganda laws that prohibit Sudanese and other foreigners from outrightly purchasing and owning land, he executed a Power of Attorney for Godwin Tashobya though whom he paid for the land.
A few months later after clearing off the Bank and chewing all the balance, Babirye turned against Ojok by selling the same land to another person. Even when Ojok brought the balance of Shs120m, Babirye refused to sign the transfer forms passing on the land. Ojok filed a case against her in Court.
Babirye says Ojok reneged on the agreement when he brought the Shs120m balance after 8 as opposed to 4 months that had initially been agreed. She is also putting in her application for security of costs claiming Ojok is a foreigner with not much property in Uganda meaning she might have nothing to attach after defeating him in court yet the practice is a successful party must get damages in court at the end of successful litigation.
Ojok’s lawyers have since objected to this application arguing that court shouldn’t be used as an instrument to justify or facilitate Babirye’s desires for unjust-enrichment. She already pocketed the man’s Shs100m and wants more from him for land she never delivered to him in the first place. Located in Kitende-Kawoto along Entebbe road, the land in question is particularized as Plot 9660 Block 383. The Sudanese, who trades between Kampala, Dubai and South Sudan has vowed to do all he can to ensure Babirye vomits his Shs100m plus interest and refund of the money he has so far spent on lawyers. Deputy Registrar Festo Nsenga is yet to rule on Babirye’s security for costs application.
‘SEBULIME STILL MINE’
Judith Babirye has told a fellow MP who visited her in America last week that Paul Sebulime Musoke is still her man and she isn’t moved by reports that he recently reunited with Nalongo Rukia Ntale with whom he fathers twins. She told the fellow MP that she looks forward to returning to Uganda and continue consummating her marriage with him while enjoying plenty of conjugal rights. That’s what Babirye wishes but it seemingly isn’t going to be easy.
Patrick Mukasa who was campaign manager for Sebulime in 2016 says the Njeru Municipality MP Sebulime sees Babirye as a source of misfortunes (ebisirani) which can cost him reelection in 2021. That’s why (besides removing Babirye’s posters from his office and ambulance) he is reuniting with Rukia Ntale, something Florence Namukasa another Njeru influencer says has already excited voters and Sebulime now stands higher chances for reelection in 2021.
To justify his decision to reunite with Ntale, whose parents he recently visited and apologized to, Sebulime now says that Judith Babirye has secretly been seeing and servicing a city bus tycoon behind his back. The Sebulime family members too aren’t interested in Babirye who they say was disrespectful and never liked them. Joseph Sebulime, who is elder brother to Paul Musoke, says the only time they heard from her was when the gospel singer sent them one box of mineral as a contribution as they prepared to stage the funeral rites for their paternal uncle Lwanga.
That she even sidelined them as she wedded their brother Sebulime and has never officially visited their home. “We don’t count her as our brother’s wife. Nalongo Rukia Ntale is the one we know,” he says. He praises Rukia as a hard-working woman with whom MP Sebulime even built his first house in Mbikko and another in Luzira where they now live. Being a pilot, MP Sebulime had a princely childhood and some of his family members see Judith Babirye as unfit to be his wife.
Their father James Sebulime was a high profile Mbikko resident who worked as manager NYTIL, always drove good cars and educated his children well. Sebulime has continued to be pressurized by family members not to bring misfortunes to the family by sticking to Babirye whose misfortunes they say will bring him problems for nothing.
