The homicide team at Kabalagala Police station has finally identified a South Sudanese student who was last week hit and killed by thugs at Wonderworld Amusement in Kansanga during a music concert. Earlier information indicated the deceased was a student of Kampala International University -KIU in Kansanga but when the administration checked their records and engaged the South Sudan students’ association, they realized he was not among any of the current or immediate past students.
When KIU could not trace the deceased among its students, Kabalagala Police became stuck on who he was. However, the relatives who have been searching for his whereabouts have finally identified him as Deng Aguek Mayen (27 years). The deceased’s uncle Mangeny has told Police that Aguek was indeed a student at Juba University, but not KIU or any other University in Uganda. “He was a student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in human medicine and surgery at Juba University. He was in his 4th year,” said Mangeny.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala metropolitan Police spokesperson, said Aguek was attacked, hit, and robbed by thugs during a music concert at Wonder world Amusement Park. Owoyesigyire said the victim was left for dead but other merrymakers rushed him to Kampala International Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead.
“We have been told that he had come for holidays at an uncle’s place in Bunga zone. At about 2 am, he was attacked during a festival by thugs that robbed him of his belongings,” said Owoyesigyire.
Kabalagala Police alongside homicide detectives have so far rounded up 13 suspects in Kansanga. Some valuables suspected to have been belonging to Aguek have been recovered. Police have preferred charges of aggravated robbery and murder against the culprits.
Kampala dwellers and other members of the public have been urged to be more vigilant during these festive days since criminals are always very lethal.
Clare Nabakka, the deputy Police spokesperson, said some of the items like expensive phones, and moving with huge amounts of money could attract criminals to attack you-URN (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [whatsapp line], 0779411734 & 0200900416 or email us at [email protected]).
