A few days ago, Soroti Anglican Bishop Odongo Kosea addressed a large crowd of mourners that came to see off UN worker Ruth Oguli who died of cancer. This was in Serere Town Council where the man of God got his gloves off and threw direct barbs at President Museveni and his ruling NRM establishment.

As the crowd pensively listened, the outspoken cleric specifically addressed his mind on the Shs15bn the GoU is understood to so far have invested in the war against locusts ravaging parts of North Eastern Uganda. He furiously asked; “Where do you get Shs15bn for locusts when you have no money to enhance teachers’ salaries?” Clearly the Bishop’s wrath was directed at key Museveni supporters at the funeral who included Fisheries Minister Hellen Adoa, Serere LC5 Chairman and the RDC Serere among others.

The cleric also turned his wrath on women who plait their hair using artificial materials. He made very derogatory remarks about the buttocks (he called them so) of such women who engage in plaiting their hair. His buttocks references made many in the audience to feel humiliated especially that the Emorimori himself was in attendance and uneasily turned in his chair.

Some of the elderly Anglicans in the audience were overheard pondering walking out on Bishop Kosea who some time some day could suffer the disgrace of preaching to an empty church as faithfuls consider extreme measures to protest the harsh language he uses on especially women who plait their hair. He is also famous for being unkind to women who dress in ways he considers inappropriate. (For comments on this story, call, text or whatsapp us on 0705579994, 0200900416 or email us at
