Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Must) Pharmacy Department professor Patrick Engeu Ogwang has donated 500 bottles of his Covid19 supporting treatment herbal drug Covidex to Uganda’s Parliament.

Weeks ago, medicines regulator National Drug Authority (NDA) notified Prof Ogwang’s herbal formula for use, not as a Covid19 cure but as a supporting treatment for viral diseases.

Before then, Covidex had hit the black market as the Must professor played hide and seek with NDA that insisted he should stop producing the concoction until he had secured the regulator’s approval.

Ogwang would later talk to President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni who assured him of security and cash to increase production of his herbal remedy. He also worked on the NDA process. The regulator allowed him to go ahead with production after ascertaining Covidex’s safety and efficacy.

Covidex is doing well on the market, getting great reviews from patients who say it has helped them tremendously, bringing in revenue to the innovator and his Jena Herbals Uganda Limited, and steadily placing Ogwang in the books of Covid19 research.

Already, Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) has given the professor land at Soroti Industrial Park to help him increase production, a free investment license and a tax holiday for a decade.

And Ogwang is using every available opportunity to push his medicine into the places that matter. In what will be a huge marketing and approval boost, he has sent bottles of Covidex to Parliament. Today, Deputy Speaker Anita Among confirmed the innovator had donated 500 bottles to the legislative arm of government, meaning that each of the MPs could have a bottle.
