NUP WARS ESCALATE AS KIBALAMA FACTION WRITES TO SPEAKER FIRING BETTY NAMBOOZE, JOEL SSENYONYI

Besides being the party spokesperson, Gideon Tugume has this Friday been unveiled as the NUP candidate for EALA.

By Mulengera Reporters

Calling himself the Ag NUP President, a one William Kintu has written to the Speaker of Parliament purporting to communicate decisions of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the party. The decisions, which Kintu says were proclaimed during the 21st June CEC meeting, relate to NUP Party Committees leadership in Parliament.

And they are follows: Mathias Mpuuga must remain as the LoP just like Medard Segona stays on as PAC Chairman. The NUP Kabowa-based faction letter also nominates FDC party’s Lucy Akello (Amur Woman MP) to replace Mityana’s Francis Zzake as the Commissioner of Parliament. Semujju Nganda is the other non-NUP legislator supposed to eat big in the Kibalama faction appointments. Kintu‘s letter makes him the Chairperson for the Committee on Government Assurances which Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze has been chairing as designated by Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu who is the other NUP President.

Joel Senyonyi‘s COSASE position is given away in favor of Dr. Abed Bwanika, the MP Kimanya-Kabonera in Masaka City. They designate Medard Segona to stay on as the Chairperson PAC deputized by Joseph Sewungu. Jinja City MP Manjeri Kyebakutika is defiantly nominated to chair PAC local government which Kyagulanyi had given to Martin Mapenduzi Ojara who has since turned against the very NUP party. The Kibalama faction also designate Lutamaguzi Semakula to carry on as Vice Chairman for PAC local government.

Former top Red Pepper crime journalist Del Omony (2nd L) is increasingly distinguishing himself as a leading official in Kibalama’s NUP faction.

In what exposes mediocrity on their part, the Kibalama group misconstrues the Parliamentary Committee on Rules, Privileges & Discipline to be among those chairable by the opposition and designate Asuman Basalirwa to chair it with Flavia Kalule Nabagabe deputizing him. The real truth is this can only be a fictitious posting (byoya bya nswa) because this Committee belongs to the ruling NRM whose man Abdul Katuntu currently chairs it.

It’s the Committee which investigated Zzake before his eventual ouster from the job of Parliamentary Commission. In the Government Assurances Committee, Nakawa East MP Ronald Balimwezo is designated to deputize Semujju Nganda.

On the same date (24th June), Kintu (acting on behalf of the Kibalama faction’s CEC) wrote a separate letter to Speaker of Parliament Anita Among introducing Gideon Tugume as their choice for NUP candidate for the position of MP East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) for the period 2022-2027.

These two letters, written by the Kibalama faction, can only represent an escalation in the feuding that has lately been brewing between NUP party founders and another larger and more significant faction loyal to Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu. The two letters were duly received by the office of the Speaker who is yet to respond to the defiant members of the Kibalama faction.

During the same Friday news conference, the Kibalama faction members also revealed how their Secretary General Paul Ssimbwa Kagombe had been tasked during the same CEC meeting to take on the Justice Simon Byabakama Electoral Commission in relation to the letter it recently wrote corroborating Kyagulanyi‘s claim to be the rightful party President along with his entire executive.

That the same Kagombe has been assigned to formally complain to CID seeking criminal investigations into the circumstances under which the original NUP party Constitution and documents relating to the 2020 Delegates Conference were altered by leaders of the Kamwokya faction.
