NEW LIST: NDA RELEASES UPDATED LIST OF APPROVED SANITIZERS, ORDERS 25 SUBSTANDARD SANITIZERS OFF THE MARKET

By Mulengera Reporters

Medicines and health equipments regulator National Drug Authority (NDA) has updated its list of hand sanitizer brands after testing samples taken from the market as the demand for hand washing gels increases in the wake of the Covid19 pandemic.

According to NDA Secretary David Nahamya, the tests are “aimed at ensuring the availability of quality and safe sanitizers on the market and protecting the public from substandard and potentially harmful products.”

The latest list features 20 brands which Nahamya says “have so far passed the quality testing parameters according to the Ugandan standard, US EAS 789:2013.” The other 25 brands failed various tests “and are not fit for use by the population.”

“NDA has also instructed the manufacturers of these failed products to withdraw them from the market with immediate effect until corrective action has been instituted and approved by NDA,” said Nahamya.

The NDA Secretary also revealed that NDA will “periodically update the public on more hand sanitizer brands tested as results become available.”

He also emphasized that, besides sanitizers, Ugandans could also use soap and water to clean their hands.

“NDA further wishes to remind the public that washing hands with soap and water for not less than 20 seconds is an affordable and effective means of eliminating germs from the hands,” he said.

The Authority also appealed to the general public to inform NDA of any unapproved hand sanitizer brands they come across on the market.

Try Africa Hand Sanitizer is among the newest manufacturers to have been accredited as genuine
