NEW ENERGY MINISTER VOWS TO SORT OUT REA
By Mulengera Reporters
Mary Goretti Kitutu, the new Energy Minister, has vowed to sort out the corruption and inefficiencies at Rural Electrification Agency (REA). She says because a lot of money has gone into high impact projects aimed at transforming lives for the rural people through enabling them access power and translate into votes for HE the President, REA must have efficient leadership that doesn’t let down the President.
That it will be her priority to understand why the Shs811bn rural electrification project (funded using a loan from Exim Bank) hasn’t yielded much impact and this is something over which she wants REA ED Godfrey Turyahikayo to explain himself regarding growing inefficiencies at the entity he leads.
This vow by the no nonsense Kitutu comes at a time when the same Engineer Turyahikayo (who many sector leaders say is difficult to supervise) is at war with his line State Minister Simon D’Ujanga over the Shs1.5trn rural electrification project (as we shall show in our subsequent story).
