In a Friday media statement, the new NRM flag bearer for Rushenyi County in Ntungamo district Naome Kabasharira has extended an olive branch urging the 23,996 residents who voted for her rival the incarcerated Mwesigwa Rukutana to forget the last weekend violence and rally behind her in the interest of development in their area.
In the same media statement she sent to Mulengera News, Kabasharira recounts the ugly fracas in Rubaare Sub County where the ill-fated Rukutana supporters unleashed violence targeting two of her coordinatinors namely Juma Kahitani and Dan Rweiburingi who has since undergone successful brain surgery resulting from the wounds that were inflicted on him.
Kabasharira narrowly defeated Rukutana polling 24,006 implying the vote difference was significantly under 1000 votes. That makes reaching out the very prudent thing to do. She must build bridges to be able to mend the broken hearts and lead a community that is united.
Kabasharira, a former Ntungamo Woman MP, also uses the same media statement to dispel rumors that her win had been cancelled and overturned. She urges her supporters to totally ignore such reports with total contempt it deserves because it simply can’t be. That she is the legitimate winner and that won’t be changing soon. She thanks supporters for their vigilance which enabled her deliver the killer punch against long-serving Mwesigwa Rukutana. She consoles those who got wounded in the violence that characterized polling in especially Rubaare Sub County prompting the President to prompt the arrest of Minister Rukutana whose camp remains accused of orchestrating much of the violence.
