NABAKOOBA SPEAKS OUT; WHY I FIRED MUTABAZI
By Isaac Wandubile
ICT Minister Judith Nabakooba has confirmed our earlier that indeed Eng Godfrey Mutabazi is no longer the CEO for Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) that among other things regulates telecom companies.
In a brief phone interaction with this reporter a short while ago, Nabakooba disclosed that; “The truth is his contract is ending on Sunday and on Monday he can’t be validly in office anymore yet this is a very busy Commission charged with sector regulation. Any work he does from Sunday onwards can be legally challenged which we don’t want to happen as government. It’s true I communicated to him today and the idea is to ensure we don’t have a vacuum at UCC. That is the reason I have appointed Director Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo to move in and hold office in acting capacity as we undertake the relevant processes aimed at recruiting a new ED for UCC.”
Nabakooba was uncomfortable disclosing how long this recruitment process is going to take as that is a largely a matter of the Board rather than her as Minister. (For comments on this story, call, text or whatsapp the writer on 0788717594 or email the editor at firstname.lastname@example.org).
