President Yoweri Museveni has threatened to deal with leaders in Greater Masaka and the wider Buganda Region who are in the habit of speaking ill and demobilizing the residents against government development programs.
Speaking at the launch of the Presidential Skilling Industrial Hub for Greater Masaka sub-region at Ndegeya Village in Masaka City on Wednesday May 24th, Museveni vowed to go back to his bush war tactics and warned that those who stand in his way will be “shot”
“I have endured sabotage, so I have decided to form my own little Luwero here. I am now back in the bush because I am being disturbed by your leaders both in Parliament and in the districts,” said the President. “This is now my territory, and whoever tries to cross me, you will take a bullet.”
Museveni, who is spending this week in the Greater Masaka region to assess the progress of the different government development programs such as Emyooga and Parish Development Model (PDM), was speaking in light of leaders opposed to these programs.
Earlier this month, the president singled out two MPs, Muwanga Kivumbi of Butambala and Pauson Luttamaguzi Ssemakula of Nakaseke South; ordering for their arrest if they continued to sabotage the programs.
Museveni cited a February 2023 report penned by Col Charles Oluka the Head of the Internal Security Organization (ISO), who mentioned the MPs among the people who have been “de-campaigning” PDM.He directed Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to deploy Ministers Ssozi Galabuzi of Luwero Triangle, and Raphael Magyezi of Local Government as well as the relevant RDCs to go on local radios and counter the two MPs’ arguments.
“If they (MPs) cross the boundary of lying and for instance incite the people to take the money and refuse to pay, they should then be arrested and charged with the relevant laws. There is some space at Luzira,” ordered the Commander in Chief.
Museveni this week kicked off a regional tour of the Greater Masaka region in which he is assessing the progress of the government poverty eradication programs and is expected to conclude the tour today in Kalangala district.
Yesterday’s function was addressed by the Minister for Investment Hon. Evelyn Anite, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Buganda Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, the Pokino for Buddu County Jude Muleke, Masaka District NRM Chairman Katumba Ssegawa who is also the Chairperson Management Committee of the Industrial Hub and the head of Masaka Business Community Eng.
