MUSEVENI SHEDS MORE LIGHT ON NRM COORDINATORS’ WORK AHEAD OF 2021 ELECTIONS
By Mulengera Reporter
Uganda’s President and ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Chairman Yoweri Museveni has stressed the importance of training and verification of coordinators under his special private party office based at Kyambogo.
Museveni told the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) management in a message delivered at the weekend that the ongoing exercise of training the party’s coordinators was “critical.”
The coordinators operate at national, regional (zonal), sub regional, district, sub county, parish and village levels all over Uganda.
He emphasized the roles of ONC coordinators, which include closing communication gaps in public service delivery as a way of helping the wananchi obtain relevant information on performance of government programs.
The other roles underscored by the NRM boss were: providing voting and campaign information “which is usually a source of last minute rushing and mistakes” as well as reminding Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) and Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) to implement Government programs as planned. The coordinators are also expected to work with CAOs and RDCs in engaging with the public on gains made in service delivery using the free weekly government air time on radio stations.
Meanwhile, the President has approved the revised program of the trainings, which coincides with the verification exercise that has so far been conducted in Kampala Metropolitan, Greater Luweero, Greater Mpigi, Greater Masaka, Greater Mukono, Greater Mbarara, Greater Bushenyi, Kigezi and Tooro.
Presided over by Milly Babirye Babalanda, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, who also doubles as a Personal Assistant to the NRM supremo, the new phase of the exercise will now head to Hoima on March 18, Arua on March 20, Lira on March 23, Soroti on March 24, Moroto on March 26 and Mbale on March 30.
A vocal and diehard supporter of the party and the president, Babalanda is working closely with a team of facilitators who take the coordinators and other partners through a structured package of tips that will enable them execute a perfect job for Museveni and NRM in next year’s general elections.
RDCs, CAOs, NRM District Chairpersons, heads of Crime Intelligence, and other key officials in security and politics are attending the trainings to create rapport and bridge the information gap as directed by Museveni, the overall supervisor of the operation.
