MUHOOZI: WHY I PITY MY FATHER’S OPPONENTS

By Mulengera Reporter

First son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said he feels sorry for those who are hell-bent on ending his father President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s rule.

Lt Kainerugaba, President Museveni’s advisor on special operations, reasoned that his father was undefeatable, given his experience in dealing with adversaries in politics and on the frontline.

“General Yoweri Museveni, the most successful revolutionary in African history. I pity those who think they can defeat him,” tweeted Lt Gen Kainerugaba on Wednesday, attaching a photo of Museveni during the bush war that brought the ruling National Resistance Army (NRA) to power in 1986.

The first son has lately been on a tweeting spree, prompting his People Power detractors to suggest that he has been idle ever since his father dropped him as commander of the elite Special Forces Command (SFC).

Kainerugaba had even proposed talks with People Power pressure group leader Robert Kyagulanyi , aka Bobi Wine, the Kyadondo East MP whom he said had been “my friend.”

It is apparently people like Bobi Wine and Dr Kizza Besigye, Museveni’s fiercest critic for about two decades, that the first was sending his sympathies.

Meanwhile, his recent tweets, touching on politics and in defence of his father and his 34-year rule, have left many guessing where the first son stands in the succession queue. In 2013, former Coordinator of Intelligence Services Gen David Sejusa (formerly Tinyefuuza) claimed there was a plan to eliminate senior military and political officers opposed to the ‘Muhoozi Project’ where father would hand power over to son.

At the start of March, Museveni’s son said the project, which he had previously distanced himself from, had turned to a blessing.

“Some evil people coined this phrase [Muhoozi Project] to try and destroy us! But trust my generation to convert every curse into a blessing! Thank you Ugandans!” tweeted Muhoozi on March 4, before suggesting he had ‘supporters’ in another tweet posted a day later.
