If you didn’t know why Mufti Shaban Mubajje was conspicuously absent at the Kololo prayer event where Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga was celebrated and prayed for, just read this. Mubajje, who is the head of the Council of Presidents for Inter-Religious Council of Uganda to which Lwanga belonged, was ordinarily supposed to join the President and other dignitaries at Kololo and even read out the IRCU statement paying tribute to his fallen member Lwanga.

However, he was no show and when Mubs Catholic Chaplain Lawrence Semusu who was the MC for that non-government session, following the day’s program, called upon him to give his speech, it’s Joshua Lwere who represents the Pentecostals in IRCU that stepped forward. Lwere explained that Mubajje was unable to gain access to Kololo grounds because he failed to secure his mandatory certificate indicating he was COVID19-free on time.

These days it’s a requirement that before the SFC lets any VIP into a function where the President is to be in attendance, that person must produce their COVID certificate clearly indicating they aren’t an endangered species capable of infecting the President whose phobia for Coronavirus or any other ailment is legendary and well known. That is the reason Mubajje, who likes ceremony and couldn’t have opted to stay away voluntarily, was unable to enjoy the red carpet moment at Kololo as his fellow cleric Lwanga was being celebrated at the State function organized by Premier Ruhakana Rugunda along with Ministers Betty Amongin, Jane Ruth Aceng, Esther Mbayo, Simon Lokodo, Judith Nabakooba and Simon Lokodo.
