Telecom giant MTN Uganda has teamed up with Salaam Charity Organisation to provide food items to Muslim officers in the Uganda Police Force (UPF).
On Thursday, Salaam Charity Organisation Managing Director Abdul Rahman Kalisa joined Ismail Hamwada, a Manager at MTN Uganda, to deliver rice, maize flour, boxes of soap, cooking oil, wheat flour and bags of sugar to Uganda Police. Senior Commissioner of Police Wilson Omoding received the food items on behalf of Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola in Kampala.
“We really appreciate the gesture to support our Muslim brothers and sisters in police especially during this Ramadan. It’s timely as most of our officers are really engaged in this lockdown fight on COVID 19. We appreciate and convey greetings from Police Management,” said Omoding.
MTN Uganda’s Hamwada and Salaam’s Kalisa said the donation was meant to help Muslim officers in breaking their fast during the ongoing Ramadhan fasting period. The food items have been offered to Muslim officers at Nsambya Police Barracks.
On Wednesday, MTN started its #RamadanWithMTN almsgiving by visiting the Uganda National Mosque at Old Kampala where sugar, soap, baking flour, oil and other items were given for Iftar. More items were also donated at Kibuli Mosque.
