National Unity Platform (NUP) lawyer and Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende says she was attacked by unidentified men as she headed to Masaka High Court for the hearing of her colleagues’ bail applications this morning.
The NUP MP says attackers deflated her car tyres along Alex Ssebowa Road in Masaka City where she had parked her vehicle during a morning downpour as she headed to Masaka High Court.
Malende’s colleagues Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West and Muhammad Ssegirinya of Kawempe North are appearing before court for the hearing of their bail application. The legislators’ appearance before Justice Lawrence Tweyanze is being conducted via a video conferencing link from Kigo Prison and Murchison Bay where they have been remanded for weeks.
According to Malende (who was in the vehicle with other people), unidentified men banged her car window, making her think they were seeking her help since it was raining. She says she would then lower the car window only for her to behold three men donning black raincoats. That before they disappeared from the scene, these unknown men heavily banged the car several times.
Malende further narrated to reporters on arrival at the Masaka Court that as soon as it stopped raining, she started the car but, moments later, she realized that the vehicle was not moving well. Malende says she would then realize that two tyres had been deflated.
The youthful suspects that the attackers might have intended to just frighten her or cause her to delay to arrive in Masaka Court, where she says some lawyers had earlier arrived and would have done the needful.
The deflation of Malende’s car comes a few days after Mukono Municipality MP, also of NUP, claimed a suspected assassin had broken into her bedroom and threatened to kill her.
