The management Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST), an academic institution that was founded at the instigation of President YK Museveni (31 years ago), has used this year’s International Labor Day to celebrate the phenomenal man from Rwakitura in a very special. And the following is their message full of praises for the man whose moral, material and financial support has seen the Western Uganda-based University come this far. Equally true, he was until a few years ago the Chancellor for the same academic institution.

The chancellor, chairman council, senate, staff and students of Mbarara University of Science and Technology congratulate their founders H.E Yoweri K. Museveni Upon his election as the president of the republic of Uganda. The Chairman University council Dr. Warren Namara said MUST has just celebrated the 27th Graduation in 31 years of its life! This is a great achievement for such a young University! And, what a gift that it is in the same period with President Museveni swearing in for another term!

Single handedly, President Museveni has provided immeasurable support and immense resources for the development of the University from its inception. The University has progressively advanced, provided conducive learning environment. All this resulting from the country’s stability, President’s leadership and the strategic vision of skilling youth to be relevant in the advancement of the country and to ensure their future. On behalf of the University Council, the entire University staff wish to congratulate the President on the swearing in and wish him the very best and long life.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Celestino Obua on behalf of Mbarara University of Science and Technology Community, congratulates H.E T.Y.K. Museveni upon being re-elected for the 5th Term of Office as the President of the Republic of Uganda. Your excellence we as the MUST community are so indebted to you for the support rendered to MUST.

Through the Minister of Education and Sports, MUST has achieved a lot of growth support as evidenced by the ever-increasing numbers of relevant science and technology programs in addition to a growing number of staff and students. There has been infrastructural development and promotion of Innovation and Technology application in all faculties. This would not have been possible without the guidance of Hon. Janat Kataha Museveni, First Lady and Minister of Education of Education and Sports. We are so grateful for your stewardship of the education sector.

Your Excellency, MUST has grown in terms of enrollment which currently stands at a population of 5345 students, with high completion rates. During the 27th Graduation ceremony, on 24th April 2021, the university graduated a total of 1,274 graduands these were, 24 PhDs, 153 Masters, 1040 bachelor’s degrees and 57 diplomas.

Some of the PhDs and Masters graduates were academic members of staff funded by the Government of Uganda through various funding mechanisms such as the African Development HEST program and the World Bank supported African Centers of Excellence at MUST. This is evidence of capacity building for graduate studies and research.

This could not have been possible without the peaceful and accommodative environment the NRM Government ushered in making it possible for workers in Uganda to accomplish the plans that were envisioned in the ten-point program of the NRA/NRM.   Your HE President TYK Museveni, the entire MUST community appreciates your vision for Uganda and particularly for MUST on this Labour Day celebration. We wish you and your government more success as you steer the country towards middle economy status.  Succeed we MUST!
