Speaking to DP President Norbert Mao this Saturday morning, Mulengera News sought his view as to whether it would be prudent for Bobi Wine, whose NUP party stands accused of disliking Acholi senior leaders, to drive to Omollo and attend Jacob Oulanyah’s burial.
In his response, Mao (who continues to be at the center of all preparations) said that Mr. Wine’s attendance would be a wise move as it would amplify the move towards reconciliation between the Acholis, his NUP party and sections of his Baganda co-ethnics who perceive some Acholi leaders as being against them.
“It would be a good gesture for reconciliation because reconciliation is actually about going where people don’t want you to go,” Mao explained. “I can assure you he is not going to be harmed by anyone at that funeral because we the Acholis are not like his followers who chase people from funerals the way I saw them do to Catherine Kusasira the other day.”
Mao also said NUP has supporters among the Acholi community members and these can simply not be wished away. “Even as we talk now, there are a lot of Bobi Wine’s people at Omollo and they have been there since the death of Jacob Oulanyah. They are part of the Acholi community and even if we are annoyed, we can’t just wakeup and begin killing them because we have quarreled with NUP leaders in Kampala. They are part of us even before Bobi Wine thinks of coming or not coming for the burial.” (For comments on this story, call, text or whatsapp us on 0705579994 [whatsapp line], 0779411734, 0200900416 or email us at mulengera2040@gmail.com).
