M7 COULD MAKE WILLING NUP MPS MINISTERS IN HIS GOVT-LUMUMBA
By Mulengera Reporters
NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba has said that being defeated in Buganda at the level of Parliament doesn’t mean her President Gen YKT Museveni’s next cabinet won’t have ministers from the populous Central region.
Lumumba says that whatever NRM lost in Buganda has been compensated by the significant political gains the ruling party has made in Acholi, Lango, West Nile and other regions where Candidate Museveni’s acceptability has increased like never before.
Saying that’s the nature of politics, Lumumba said there was nothing unusual. Speaking to reporters at Kyambogo, the SG also said the fact that more than 14 Ministers can lose their MP Seats simply because the voters have rejected them is proof of how far Gen Museveni has come in his endeavors to politically make the people of Uganda to feel empowered to make political decisions regarding who their leaders should be.
Lumumba then said she doesn’t expect Gen Museveni to marginalize Buganda by not having any of its people in his cabinet. She said apart from a few NRMs like David Kabanda and Ntenjeru/Kayunga’s Amos Lugoloobi who succeeded being reelected, Gen Museveni is free to appoint anyone into his cabinet including picking from the NUP Parliamentary Caucus should any of the newly elected Kyagulanyi-sponsored legislators be willing and interested to serve at that level.
Lumumba said that, just like has been the case with UPC’s Betty Amongin, UFA’s Beti Kamya or even DP’s Nakiwala Kiyingi, Gen Museveni can lawfully appoint any of the NUP MPs to serve in his cabinet.
