Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua has this Thursday told reporters at Parliament that through disgruntled NUP MP Twaha Kagabo (Bukoto South), Gen Museveni is already reaching out and engaging with more other members of the NUP caucus in Parliament.
Obua, who convened the media event to specifically update the country about the upcoming 27th May-5th June NRM Caucus retreat at Kyankwanzi, said as organisers they are hopeful that Hon Kagabo (along with other NUP leaders) will be joining the veteran leader from Rwakitura for the Kyankwanzi retreat which has been dedicated to deepening MPs’ understanding of government programs like PDM.
Obua said that the President’s tour and camping in Masaka had been used to (among other things) assess and gauge the political mood in Buganda indicating there is a high likelihood Buganda region will once again embrace Gen YK Museveni come 2026.
Besides hostility and pressure being faced from the public members who fault NUP elected leaders for not doing enough to respond to and address bread and butter issues, Obua said there is widespread appreciation that even when Kabaka’s people voted against him, Gen Museveni acted magnanimously by making many leaders from Buganda Ministers and ex-officio Members of Parliament.
Obua said Gen Museveni is determined to rebuild again and reap from productive and effective alliance between his NRM and Buganda whose Kyankwanzi district hosts the National Leadership Institute where the PDM induction among all MPs will be taking place. Obua said while in Masaka, he personally realised there is a lot of willingness among elected NUP leaders to embrace and work with NRM once again.
“This is why we have left the door open for such friendly leaders to join us in Kyankwanzi and I’m certain they are going to,” said Obua who was flanked by two other MPs namely Napak’s Faith Nakur Loru and Herbert Kinobere who deputizes him as Caucus Chairperson.
