IGG CRACKS WHIP ON CORRUPT MITOMA BOSSES
Several officials working at Mitooma district headquarters were on Monday October 7, 2019 arrested by operatives from the Inspector General of Government (IGG) over allegations of getting involved in employment corruption. It is alleged that the suspects have been soliciting bribes from innocent Ugandans who they would promise job in the district although they didn’t fulfill their promises and their acts tantamount to employment corruption.
Their arrest came after the Inspectorate of Government (IG) received a complaint in which it was alleged that Mitooma District Service Commission (DSC) advertised several jobs in February 2018, although the recruitment process was characterized with irregularities. After receiving the complaint from a whistle-blower, the IG instituted investigations into the matter, which led to the arrest of some District Officials on Monday.
According to IG mouthpiece Ali Munira the suspects include Amon Byamugisha (Senior Human Resource Officer), Saverinus Beyendeza (Community Development Officer), Onesmus Agaba (Human Resource Officer) and Sarah Kiconco (the Community Development Officer).
Munira explains the indicted officials will face criminal charges like corruption (contrary to sections 2(a) and 26 of the Anti-Corruption Act). Specifically, Amon Byamugisha will have to answer for corruptly solicited gratification of Shs2.5m from Keleth Atamba who was eyeing the post of Procurement Officer of Mitooma District Local Government.
The 2nd count will be committing acts of corruption (contrary to sections 2(a) and 26 of the Anti-Corruption Act) relating to Shs1.5m that the same Byamugisha corruptly received in April 2018 from Keleth Atamba’s mobile line 0787562141
as an inducement to secure Keleth Atamba a job as a Procurement Officer of Mitooma District Local Government.
Other victims include Sarah Kiconco from whom Shs2m was extorted in return for a job of Community Development Officer of Mitooma District Local Government. Another Shs2m was received by Saverinus Beyendeza (Community Development Officer of Mitooma District Local Government on his Mobile Phone Number 0772988898) as an inducement to secure for Sarah Kiconco the job of Human Resource Officer of Mitooma District Local Government.
Munira further reveals that the suspects will appear at the anti-corruption tomorrow (Tuesday) October 8th, 2019 to face their respective charges. The arrest however comes at a time when many Ugandans are faulting the IGG for being a barking dog that has failed to prosecute many senior government officials named in corruption scandals but often looking out for the ‘smallest fish’ in the ‘Ocean’ of grand corruption in Uganda.
