Saying he is sick and tired of endless begging and extreme misconduct, President Museveni’s brother Gen Salim Saleh has written a letter signaling poverty-stricken Ugandan musicians and beggars that none of them should waste his or her time again trekking to Gulu to go on begging sprees. Gen Saleh, whose blue-eyed boy Ramathan Goobi is presiding over the ailing Ugandan economy, apparently no longer has enough to cater for thousands of beggars who keep going to his Gulu enclave to ask for help.
Even when it hasn’t yet attracted adequate media attention and publicity, the bitter truth is that Uganda’s economy is limping with government failing to do basic things such as promptly paying salaries or even suppliers of basic services to its entities and MDAs. There is no way money makers like Standard Chartered Bank, which has been here for more than 100 years, would be closing shop to leave if the situation was as rosy as Gen Museveni would want the world to believe.
In his letter, Gen Saleh notifies all the poverty-stricken and ill-mannered Ugandan musicians, who are renowned for being lazy and full of self-importance, that none of them will be tolerated storming Gulu or any of his other hideouts anymore. Some of the Ugandan musicians aren’t only lazy and inadequately educated, they have a lot of self-importance and like blackmailing the President through Gen Saleh. The assistants and security detail members at Saleh’s hideouts have all been alerted and asked to do all they can to ensure that none of the penurious Ugandan musicians ever gets to access the President’s brother.
Gen Saleh anticipated that many of these fortune-seeking musicians would be flocking his Gulu hideout seeking financial favors as they go into Christmas recess. Some would be coming to implore him to give them money to feed their families and to also organize musical concerts for the festive season. Gen Saleh is very magnanimous, just like his brother Yoweri Museveni, but the endless begging of the impact-less Ugandan musicians has got to his nerve. They keep taking money from him claiming to be working towards neutralizing Bobi Wine and the opposition yet the President’s brother has realized that many of them are just propagating UTIs and actually have no impact on the population. None of them can sustainably diminish Bobi Wine’s political support and popularity in any demonstrable way.
Gen Saleh also now believes that it’s better to invest public money in provision of public goods like schools, hospitals and better-remuneration for teachers, scientists and medics than squandering it on opulent musicians whose impact had all along been exaggerated. The General has also realized through intelligence and phone communications interceptions that many of these musicians are double dealers who have no genuine love for the NRM government yet they like to pretend to be anti-Bobi Wine when they come in his presence.
The General, who has done a lot for Ugandan artistes, now says that whoever has an issue concerning the music industry or even ideas on what the GoU needs to address or improve upon should channel them through his greatness Eddie Kenzo Musuza (Nyamutoro’s husband) who is the relevant Presidential advisor and President of the association under which all musicians are supposed to unite.
The musicians have been advised to recognize Eddie Kenzo’s leadership or totally forget about ever communicating anything directly to the President’s brother without going through Kenzo.
