GOVT CHIEF WHIP TAYEBWA WARNS COMMITTEE BOSSES AGAINST CORRUPTION

By Joel Mugabi

Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa has cautioned parliamentary committee chairpersons and their deputies from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party against corruption.

Tayebwa, also the MP representing Ruhinda North, met designated NRM committee chairpersons, their deputies, as well as the party’s whips for accountability committees and caucus executive members in Kampala.

The meeting was called to discuss strategies for executing the NRM government’s legislative agenda for the 2021/22 financial year.

Chief Whip Tayebwa told the MPs that President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni “will be watching” the 11th Parliament committee chairpersons “closely” as he moves to weed corruption out of Parliament.

Tayebwa also made it clear that the NRM will drop any committee chairperson or deputy chairperson who fails to deliver as far as the party’s legislative agenda is concerned.

“We agreed on building cohesion, timely processing of government business before Parliament, and ensuring that government business is in line with National Development Plan III and NRM Manifesto,” added the Chief Whip after the meeting.
