Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Electoral Commission (EC) Secretary Augustine Ojobile is one of the two suspects in police detention over a protest in which coffins were dumped at Mulago National Referral Hospital bearing placards with words calling for the resignation of Ministry of Health (MoH) Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine.
The protest happened days after President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni reappointed Dr Atwine the MoH PS, and in the heat of criticism over the management of Covid19 funds.
Some have consistently claimed Atwine has failed to give accountability for billions of money injected in health interventions against the deadly Covid19 pandemic.
But MoH has severally given explanations on accountability of monies such as donations and budgetary allocations. Days after the July 27 coffin protest, Police has now confirmed it arrested Ojobile, who is also the acting Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at FDC’s Najjanankumbi headquarters.
Yesterday, FDC reported that Ojobile had been ‘kidnapped’ by plainclothed men from his home in Kasubi in Kampala. Now, police has confirmed arresting Ojobile after days of trailing him. That detectives have evidence to prove that the FDC activist took part in the protest and would soon be arraigned in court after the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised on charges he would battle. One of the probable charges is inciting violence.
Also arrested is a one Sharif Kawooya aka Kajambiya, who was picked from Kawempe, while others are still at large. Both Ojobile and Kawooya are being detained at Kawempe Police Station.(For comments on this story, call, text or whatsapp us on 0705579994, 0779411734, 0200900416 or email us at mulengera2040@gmail.com).
