ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: RWABWOGO FINALLY STRIKES AS UCC ORDERS PEARL FM TO TAME TAMALE MIRUNDI OR BE CLOSED
By Mulengera Reporters
Every Saturday 9-11am, Pearl FM radio airs a program called “The Patriot” on which chief fake news peddler Tamale Mirundi appears to uninterruptedly defame those he hates. And he is always permitted to act as if Uganda is a lawless country without laws and regulatory minimum broadcasting standards. Mirundi, who never allows to be countered, has for years been coming to this program to accuse Odrek Rwabwogo, who marries Gen. Museveni’s daughter Patience, of all manner of things.

The moderators just keep nodding their heads like nodding disease syndrome patients as opposed to requiring him to corroborate his allegations. Neither do they give platform to those Mirundi defames to also give their side of the story. It’s against this background that a Kampala law firm (Abassa Advocates) and a group of political volunteers calling itself disciples of Rwabwogo recently petitioned the media space regulator UCC imploring its ED Eng Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo (a daughter to former Minister Bitamazire) to inquire into the Mirundi impugned conduct. According to UCC sources, at some point, even Rwabwogo himself got aggrieved and complained to the Commission seeking protection against deliberate and sustained demonization by Mirundi, a self-professed propagandist and peddler of fake news.
It’s against this background that UCC, which is mandated to enforce minimum broadcasting standards, has finally wokened up from its slumber and stopped sleeping on the job by moving to crack the whip on Mirundi who many regulators fear to contradict because they think he is always out doing President Museveni’s media assignments.

According to Ms Kaggwa, Mirundi is expected to appear before UCC’s investigations tribunal this coming Wednesday 18th May at 10am at Commission headquarters in Bugoloobi and answer some tough questions. The proprietor, management and producers/hosts of Pearl FM which airs the impugned Patriot program must come along with Mirundi whose attendance of the hearing session they must enforce or else risk being slapped with regulatory sanctions which the Commission is empowered to hand out by law under the Constitution, the UCC Act and the regulations deriving there from.
Eng Irene Kaggwa says the preliminary investigations they have carried out indicate that both Mirundi and the radio management or owners have a case to answer. Subsequently, the radio management has been required to submit a written defense or statement of explanation in relation to the contents of The Patriot program aired between 4th March and 4th May 2022 so that the same can be further examined and authenticated. The radio management must also produce program scripts for each shows they hosted with Mirundi on all the Saturdays falling in that period.
They must also explain their terms of engagement with Mirundi and what his official designated role is in that radio program that airs every Saturday of the week. Eng Kaggwa makes it clear that should Pearl FM management fail to produce Mirundi for the Wednesday hearing or respond as required, they will be condemned unheard and, to their own detriment, severe regulatory sanctions will be issued against them by the Commission.
Mirundi, who many fake news victims fear to contradict or even drag to Court for clearly actionable defamation thinking he is always put doing the President’s bidding by character-assasinating public officials, has always been too hot a potato for regulators at UCC to handle because even Eng Irene Kaggwa’s predecessor Eng Godfrey Mutabazi suffered his wrath and couldn’t do much to reign in radios that were permitting him a platform. Mirundi would directly attack the former UCC Supremo and his other family members and, even when he was feared by many people and media users as ruthless, Eng Mutabazi wouldn’t do anything to him. It remains to be seen how far Eng Kaggwa will go cracking the whip on the clearly very crude and standards-breaching man from Kalisizo.
Even when Mulengera News impeccably knows that the President’s son will only run for Presidency after 2026 (and not before because Gen Museveni intends to do one more), Mzee Tamale Mirundi maintains that Odrek Rwabwogo deserves demonization because he isn’t among those who wish Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to ever become President after the veteran leader from Rwakitura has eased out.
