One of the ways through the which the GoU, through the Ministry of Health, works towards diminishing our country Uganda’s disease burden is through immunisation. And this is part of the broader strategy of prevention which the Minister Jane Ruth Aceng and Permanent Secretary Diana Atwine have relentlessly been advocating for at every opportunity.
Leveraging on funding recently obtained from international partners, through the GAVI Alliance arrangement for systems strengthening & immunisation in Uganda, the Ministry of Health this very week caused the Finance Ministry to effect the transfer of a total of Shs5,050,951,870 to a total of 156 Local Governments (districts & Cities).
The money is meant to boost community level immunisation activities in the recipient Local Governments. The cash is to be used by CAOs to specifically effect and roll out immunisation activities related to the intervention called “Integrated Child Health Days (ICHDs)”.
According to Dr. Diana Atwine (the PS), these accelerated child immunisation activities have to strictly be carried out during the month of October which will be upon us in a matter of days. And in the following story, Mulengera News reveals and particularizes how much has been disbursed to which district to enable the rolling out of the October immunisation activities.
