A crocodile has mauled a 72-year-old man in Lake Albert in Hoima District. The deceased has been identified as Richard Onviko, a fisherman attached to Toonya landing site, Toonya parish in Buseruka sub-county.
It is alleged that Onviko on May 19th went for fishing on Lake Albert on. However, while on the lake, the crocodile emerged from the Lake and grabbed him.
Pascal Giriya, a fisherman at Tonya landing site says although the deceased sounded an alarm it was not possible to rescue him since he was a distance away from other fishermen on the lake.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says that the fishermen teamed up with the police and retrieved the body from the lake on Monday with some of the body parts missing. This is not the first person to be mauled by a crocodile on Lake Albert.
In April 2020, a crocodile mauled a 20-year-old man in Lake Albert in Buliisa District. The deceased was identified as Papi Ubemu, a resident of Butiaba Landing Site in Butiaba sub-county.
In July 2018, a crocodile attacked and severely injured 18-year-old Maureen Vicky, a resident of Kiryamboga landing site in Hoima district.
The deceased was on her way back home from an area near River Wambabya in Kiryamboga where she had gone to collect firewood together with five other women when was attacked by the crocodile. She was severely injured in the stomach, leg, left hand, head, and back.
