The territorial teams in Rwizi region in coordination with CI task teams, carried out an intelligence led operation and dismantled a criminal gang that was robbing motor vehicles in Rwizi region. Our task teams built on an incident, where a motor vehicle Premio Super Silver, registration number UAS 635B, that belonged to Baineruhanga Allan, was stolen from Shooters Bar on the 26/01/2024 at around 4am.
As a result, a one Mugisha Abdul Karim, a former mechanic of Mbarara City, now residing in Konge-Makindye was arrested. He admitted to have participated in the robbery of the motor vehicle and a Toyota Corona, green in colour, in September 2023, around 8pm, along Katerera road, Kyambira subcounty in Rubirizi district. His accomplices from Kisekka market include; Kisukka Jamal, alias Hajji, (resident of Nsangi), Maganda Najib of Namungoona, Hamudan Paul of Iganga-Kigulu road, Ismail of Iganga and Kawooya Ben of Nansana. Most of the robbers were arrested by the Flying Squad Unit in 2020, but recently released from court.
Their modus of operation is that they buy an Allen Key Size 10, which is modified and used to unlock new motorvehicle. For old motorvehicles, they use normal keys. They basically target motorvehciles at school events like visitation days, major public and social events, announcements on radios, and Tvs, and take advantage of security lapses to rob the motor vehicles from parking yards. The stolen vehicles has the chasis numbers antlered and given new plates by Mzeyi Binyebwa of Salama and Bunamwaya. These fetch higher prices, while these whose number plates are not changed go for 3million shillings only. They were trained by Hakim, who relocated to the USA. A motor vehicle registration number UAZ403C (fake numbers) was recovered.
The arrest of the notorious car robber demonstrates our collective resolve to fight motor vehicle crimes. We strongly believe the outcome of the operation will help restore confidence, among car owners in the region. The operation remains active and ongoing.
