Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, disclosed that his invitation to the Busoga Royal Wedding was rescinded at the last moment, just hours before the event.
Bobi Wine expressed disappointment, stating that despite rushing back from overseas to attend the historic occasion, he was informed by organizers that he couldn’t participate due to the presence of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the First Son.
“The Katukiro of Busoga publicly invited me and my team, as everyone witnessed. Despite returning home on November 17 specifically to be present at the wedding, I was informed at the eleventh hour that I couldn’t attend due to an order from Mr. Museveni and his son, along with their security personnel,” he said.
“I was truly disappointed; I had even purchased a new suit for the occasion. However, I look forward to wearing it on my next visit to Busoga.”
These revelations were made by Bobi Wine during a commemoration event for the tragic Kampala Riots of November 2020, where he paid his respects to those who lost their lives.
Despite the setback, he extended congratulations to the Busoga royals and locals, offering well wishes for a joyful and successful marriage.
“I congratulate the Kyabazinga and Mama on their auspicious occasion. My heartfelt congratulations to the people of Busoga, and I wish the King and Queen a prosperous life together,” he stated.
The Busoga royal wedding, the first in nearly seven decades, took place at Christ Cathedral in Bugembe, followed by the reception at the newly renovated Igenge Palace.
Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, accompanied by his wife Charlotte, attended the wedding reception, where he and President Museveni jointly presented 30 cows as a gift to the royals.
During the festivities, Kyabazinga William Nadiope Gabula acknowledged President Museveni’s significant support, noting that the President played a crucial role in the wedding preparations. The King disclosed that Museveni took charge of renovating the Budhumbula Palace, where the royals will reside, emphasizing that the President referred to himself as the “invisible chairman of the wedding.”
Museveni’s support for King Nadiope dates back to the latter’s childhood, as the President sponsored his education from primary school through to his ongoing PhD studies.
