BIG WAR ERUPTS AT IG OFFICE AS LADY IRENE MULYAGONJA FAVORS BAMUGEMEREIRE TO SUCCEED HER AHEAD OF CADRE MARIAM WANGANDYA
By Mulengera Reporters
All isn’t well at the IG offices where Irene Mulyagonja’s contract expires in July this year and she hasn’t yet quit even when she was recently approved as Judge of Court of Appeal. She has previously reached out to President Museveni recommending one of her deputies George Nathan Bamugemereire (hubby to Catherine Bamugemereire) as someone suitable to succeed her as IGG, something Museveni has remained silent about. Besides Bamugemereire, Mariam Wangadya is the other deputy for Mulyagonja. Some staffers at the Inspectorate prefer that she becomes the next IGG on the strength of her credentials including being a diehard Museveni supporter since her days at Human Rights Commission. Mulyagonja previously told Mulengera News she was staying on to avoid a leadership vacuum at the Inspectorate and will vacate the day President Museveni announces a successor. Should Museveni not name new IGG up to July 2020, Mulyagonja is prepared to pass the button to Bamugemereire and not Wangadya whose supporters argue there is nothing like seniority or one taking precedence over the other since the two Deputy IGGs are of equal rank.
Mulyagonja’s delay to exit and active preference for Bamugemereire has caused some uneasiness among some people at the Inspectorate leading to significant amount of polarisis. Insisting there was growing strife at the IG, sources claimed work would continue to suffer as staffers descend into intrigue and rumor mongering regarding what the future holds for the two deputies-whose contracts end in December 2020 for Bamugemereire and May 2021 for Mariam Wangadya, a ruthless Musevenist whose love for NRM, according to some, borders on sycophancy. The only way either of the two can remain at the Inspectorate (after May 2021) is by Museveni elevating them to full IGG otherwise they are both just months away from exhausting their two unrenewable terms.
