AGA KHAN SCHOOL CAUTIONS PARENTS, PUPILS ON COVID-19

By Mulengera Reporter

The Principal of Aga Khan Education Service, Uganda, Mr. Fred Tukahirwa, has issued an advisory to parents and pupils on how to contain the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a memo to parents dated April 28, 2021, Mr. Tukahirwa said despite the pandemic continuing to test their resilience, there is a glimmer of hope with the arrival of a load of vaccine.

“In the meantime, we have to deal with the challenges that the virus brings and therefore wish to advise that we are investigating a case of suspected Covid-19 exposure. By all accounts, the chances of the virus transmission are likely to have been very low but in line with our health, safety and security protocols, we are taking the precaution of conducting remote teaching for Thursday 29th and Friday 30th April 2021 with an intention to return to onsite classes from Monday 3rd May. Further communication shall be sent to you by the end of this week,” said Mr. Tukahirwa.

He further advised: “As a further precaution, please observe your children and if they show any symptoms that could be Covid-19 related, keep them at home in isolation for at least 10 days, but please do inform us immediately you make this decision. If you or any member of your family has recently travelled to Uganda from another country, we highly recommend that you consider self-quarantine according to the Ministry of Health guidelines.”

The Principal noted that they are aware that there are a number of children with seasonal coughs and sneezes at present, which are not Covid-19 related, and thus advised that children with these illnesses are kept at home until they fully recover.

“We wish to reassure our community that we will continue to implement the health and safety protocols that have been mandated by the Ministry of Health, WHO and AKDN. Your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated,” he said.
